Polyester renewal: a big step toward a smaller footprint

As part of ongoing efforts to advance technologies that reduce environmental impacts and enable a lower-carbon future, Eastman commissioned a life cycle assessment (LCA) of one its polyester renewal technologies—methanolysis.

Eastman’s methanolysis technology is a type of material-to-material molecular recycling technology that will help solve the world’s plastic waste crisis by using hard-to-recycle plastic polyester waste to make new materials. Compared to traditional production methods, the technology also significantly reduces carbon emissions and demonstrates improvements across a wide spectrum of environmental metrics.

Eastman commissioned Quantis, an esteemed international LCA consultant, to complete an LCA for methanolysis (including a critical review by a panel of third-party LCA experts) to confirm that the study is in conformance with international LCA standards (ISO 14040 and 14044).
